“Bring your Bible to Church”

When you google the phrase, “bring your Bible …,” a typical result is an article or a graphic about bringing your Bible to school. The intent is for school aged children and teens to bring their Bibles with them so that God’s word is always present and, if the opportunity arises, they can become tools for evangelism.
These days, there doesn’t seem to be a need to bring your Bible to church. We project verses onto a large screen so that all you have to do is give it a glance. It is certainly convenient but not necessarily a good substitute for having a Bible in your lap. While making it easier, we may be working against growing good habits and strong disciplines.
Starting this Sunday, May 3, instead of showing the teaching passages for our Sunday sermons on the front screen, we will project the references and invite you to look them up in your own Bible. So, let’s get in the habit (again) of bringing our Bibles to church.
Keep in mind though that technology is not all bad. It can offer a useful tool if you already have or want to load a Bible app on your phone or tablet. While some people genuinely prefer the printed page, a printed Bible is not inherently more spiritual than a digital one. And digital Bibles can offer features like: word searches, commentaries, multiple versions, different languages and limitless notetaking, to name but a few. If you don’t already have one, here are some suggestions.
