Herb Wahler Celebration of Life

Herb Wahler passed away from us and into the presence of the Lord on Friday, May 22. This Saturday, July 11, we will celebrate his life at First Alliance Church.

Visitation with the family will be held at 10:00 a.m. with the service starting at 11:00 a.m. A fellowship lunch in the Family Life Center will follow. Everyone is invited to attend.

Obituary

Herbert “Herb” Wahler, 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 22, 2026, passing away peacefully at Summit Grove Camp in his cottage. Born on February 26, 1939, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Herb lived a life grounded in faith, family, and service to his community.

After graduating from Uniontown High School, Herb served honorably in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963. On February 11, 1961, he married Katherine Barton Rice, beginning a lifelong partnership centered on love, faith, and family.

Following his military service, Herb continued his education, earning an Associate Degree from Temple University and a Bachelor of Science degree from American University. He began his professional career with Singer-Link before serving with the National Weather Service and later the United States Department of Commerce in International Trade. Herb retired from the Department of Commerce in 2009 after many years of dedicated service.

A member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church since 1954, Herb faithfully served his church community in many ways. He was a longtime trustee and lovingly worked in the church nursery for over 40 years, touching countless lives through his quiet kindness and servant’s heart.

Herb had many passions throughout his life. As a teenager and again later in adulthood, he owned and cared for horses. He also enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and tackling any handyman project with skill and determination. Known for being able to fix nearly anything, Herb was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors.

Herb is survived by his beloved wife Kathie, their children, Doug (LeeAnn), David (Tracy) and Jenny, grandchildren Nathan Dunton, Becca (Cletis) Bentz, Jonathan Wahler, Samantha (Hugh) Pettit, Ryan and Evan Wahler, great grandchildren Charlotte, Rhiannon, Gia, Sarah, Abner and Rachel. He also is survived by sisters, Helen (Tom) Rentfrow, Edie (Rick) Rossini, sister-in-law Puff (Danny) Lucas, sister-in-law Rusty and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Helen Wahler, his brother Ed, sisters-in-laws Barb and Judy, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Claudia and Don Hult, nephews Donnie Hult, Rodger Francis, and grandniece, Tory Duff.

Herb will be remembered for his steady faith, generous spirit, hardworking nature, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through his kindness, service, and unwavering devotion.
