... and the early years
Read the Summary
Angels – were sent by God to both Mary and Joseph to help explain what was about to happen. The birth of Jesus was a unique and miraculous event. It required an explanation that was equally supernatural.
Bethlehem – was the place on earth where Jesus was born. It was the town of David, the ancestor of Joseph and the place that he and Mary needed to go to participate in the Roman census.
Shepherds – were sent by the angels to visit Jesus. They saw the angels while out in the fields nearby. Initially, they were very afraid, but the message that they heard was Good News, meant for all people.
Magi – followed a star to visit Jesus. They started in a country far to the East and knew enough about the promised Messiah to make the long journey, find him, and worship him. Along the way they bumped into King Herod who had less than honorable intentions to find Jesus too.
Egypt – is the place where Jesus was taken for safety and Joseph was warned in a dream about Herod’s intent to do harm to Jesus. They were refugees, forced to leave their homeland, but God the Father was with them every step of the way.
Nazareth – is the place where Jesus grew up. It was a small and obscure town, not quite what we would expect for the King of kings and Lord of lords. From this humble beginning, Jesus not only came to identify with the world, he also came to rescue the world from sin and death.
